The world is experiencing a terrible phase of immorality, unethical conduct, lawlessness, dis-respectfulness and lack of self discipline. We can reverse this trend if society can return to the idea that every individual should develop a strong personal moral and ethical foundation.
The Conservative Buddhists of America believe that we can regain a positive societal foundation by following the five simple, natural and morally conservative Buddhist principles known as the “Five Precepts”:
1. To refrain from destroying living creatures. (No killing.)
2. To refrain from taking that which is not given. (No stealing.)
3. To refrain from sexual misconduct or adultery.
4. To refrain from incorrect speech. (No lying, gossiping, swearing, malicious or harsh speech.)
5. To refrain from intoxicating drinks, drugs and other substances which lead to carelessness.
Ethics and morality are fundamental in creating a better life for individuals, society, and the world as a whole. Following the conservative principles of the “Five Precepts” can foster the revival of ethics and morality and will help to restore peace to the planet.
We also believe in forging societal and individual peace and advancement through meditation. Meditation is simply a tool that allows us to use our minds to influence and change the reality around us. We can use it to bring inner peace to ourselves and this, in turn, can bring peace to the world.
Furthermore we can improve ourselves and society by fostering and practicing virtuous acts such as cleanliness, punctuality, orderliness, politeness, respectfulness, generosity, compassion, and striving for health, wisdom and prosperity.
The Conservative Buddhists of America follow the Theravada Buddhist meditation technique and teachings of the Dhammakaya tradition as presented by the Masters and current Monks of Wat Phra Dhammakaya. We invite you to join us so that we can improve both ourselves and our society as a whole.
